A high MgO and highly prospective ultramafic belt is located approximately 300m east of First Find. The belt strikes in a NNE direction and has an apparent thickness of over 500m. 3.7 strike kilometres of the belt is located within GEE tenure in this area which is referred to as the Basilisk Ni target.
Basilisk Ni is interpreted to be in the same stratigraphic position and ultramafic belt that host the Nepean deposit and the Boucher’s and Miriam prospects. Co-funded hole FFD02 drilled at First Find intersected this ultramafic package at depth. The ultramafic rocks intersected contained high MgO channel facies material with disseminate nickel sulphides. This, along with an interpreted embayment feature observed in aeromagnetic data confirms Basilisk Ni as a high priority exploration target.
5.4km further north, part of the same ultramafic belt continues in a NNE direction within GEE tenure from Komodo to north of Mallee Dragon. 11.4 strike kilometres of the belt occurs in this section.
Part of this ultramafic belt also folds around to the west and continues past the Geko gold deposit. At least 8 strike kilometres of the belt occurs in this section.
There is also nickel potential at Shooters, where 3.3 strike kilometres of a komatiite-mafic volcanic contact occurs.
Each of these targets will be investigated systematically, with Basilisk Ni being the highest priory due to the following points:
- Channel facies high MgO rocks and nickel sulphides have been confirmed
- A basal contact with a mafic volcanic package has been confirmed
- The ultramafic thickens in this area and aeromagnetic interpretation suggests an embayment feature
